Finally, my first post for the year 2012! I haven't done any sewing lately because of so many things...and one of the reason is because I don't have any fabric to sew. Yesterday my husband and I went grocery shopping and since we were close to my favorite thrift store, I asked him if I could check it out for a few minutes. So he dropped me off and him and my daughter were waiting outside. Of course, it took me an hour inside (bweheheheh) So I was browsing the store and I found this huge long sleeve top with a beautiful feminine color and flowing fabric...and not only that, it's only 99cents! I just grab it from the hanger and went straight to the counter. I really believe that some people's trash is other people's treasure.

Random Project: Pajamas & Seat Cushion Cover

It's almost the end of November. I am surprise I don't see snow on the ground yet! It's getting colder everyday though. So since I can't take my daughter to the park for a walk, I decided to do some little stuff around the house just to keep myself busy or else I'm gonna go cray cray with this ugly weather! Today I made a matching pajamas for me and my lil girl. I found this fabric at Walmart for only $1.50/yard (used 2 yard for both pajamas).

I also changed the cushion cover for our chair using the remaining fabric from my table runner project.

I am glad my day is quite productive. Now it's time to play with my lil stinker then later I am making a carrot cake for the first time. Wish me luck! :D

Table Runner

I have been wanting to make a table runner but I couldn't find a nice print and inexpensive fabric for this project. Yes I always look for inexpensive fabric so that I won't have to worry about making a mistake :D Anyway, I found this floral black and white fabric at Walmart for $6/yard (I used 1 yard). All I did is stitch around the hem and that's it. Why spend $20 for a table runner if you can make it for only $6! :D

Pencil Skirt

It's been awhile I haven't played with my sewing machine. Good thing my husband and I dropped by at the fabric store and I found this basic dress pattern and they are on sale and I thought would be a simple project to practice. Unfortunately, I bought a fabric from remnant section (because they are 50% off) and it wasn't big enough to make a dress. So I ended up making only the skirt part of the pattern. This is also the first time I made something with zipper.

Easy To Make Hat

So it's only mid September and yet the temperature went down to 40F's this morning!!! Brrrrr. One thing I hate about cold weather is that it makes me feel lazy...but I didn't let it happen to me today. So I went online and search for something easy to make project and luckily I found this easy to make hat in BurdaStyle.Com...such a great site! I got this remnant nude felt fabric for only $1 and thought this would make a cute hat for fall. So I made one for myself and my little girl. Tadahhhhh!

Tied Up Halter Top & Dress

Finally, I got the chance to take a picture of my first beautiful "cutomer". She is wearing a polka dot halter dress with a tie-up on the neck and I also made a similar style top for the remaining fabric. I used 2 yards for these two project. By the way, she is the first Filipina that I've met here in St. Louis after over a year of living here. We've met in the bank where she is working and then she invited me to the Bible study in her place where I met the rest of my Filipina friends. Just a lil history of our friendship. (=

Long Sleeve Barong & High Neck Ruffled Top

My friend just got her US citizenship and on her oath taking she wanted to wear something that represent her born country which is the Philippines. She had a hard time looking for a "filipiniana" outfit so I suggested that we will make a "Barong" which is the national costume for the male in our country. But nowadays, women do wear barong on top of a body fitted dress in different colors. Barong is made of a sheer fabric and the most elegant material they use is made from the pineapple (I forgot the name of the fabric) and they usually put some detailing around the  button area. So it was a challenge for me to make one since I've never done something with sleeves before. Not only that, sewing a glittery organza fabric is kinda tricky! But I am so proud of myself that I did it right...I guess? LOL Anyway, my friend told me that somebody complimented her barong and even wanted to buy it from her. Yay! I was also wearing the blue high neck ruffled top that I made which is one of my favorites. I love printed chiffon because they look so feminine...they make me feel like a real natural woman! ok that's a song LOL
